Q: "What's in it for me?" A: Power and protection |
     Short/Immediate term we gain
Status Quo protection and Weingarten Rights. The former
meaning our working environment is protected from change, including
layoffs, without negotiation. Our benefits, processes, and perks remain
until our contract is signed.      The latter providing the right to have union representation during any meeting/discussion with supervisors that may be disciplinary in nature which promotes transparency in the workplace.      Long Term it grants us the power to negotiate our benefits and working conditions by codifying them in a legally binding contract. |
Q: "Could I be retaliated against for supporting or voting?" A: No |
Not under the terms of the Neutrality Agreement
between MSFT and CWA. Labor organization is a legally protected right
which is further guaranteed under that agreement.      See the following links for more detail:           https://blogs.microsoft.com/on-the-issues/2023/10/13/microsoft-affirms-commitment-to-labor-principles-cwa-labor-neutrality-agreement/           https://cwa-union.org/news/releases/cwa-microsoft-announce-labor-neutrality-agreement |
Q: "I'm a Lead, am I eligible to join?" A: It depends |
Eligibility is determined by job responsibilities, not job title, and most Leads at other ZMI studios have been eligible to join. Generally speaking, unless you have direct hiring/firing capability or control over others compensation, you are probably eligible to join. |
Q: "What are the dues? How/When are they collected?" A: Dues are 1.3% of salary, deducted via payroll |
CWA Union dues are 1.3% of salary, deducted every pay period. Dues are not collected until after our first labor contract is signed. |
Q: "Does forming a union automatically enroll all employees into paying dues?" A: Not in Texas |
Because Texas is a "Right to Work" state, employees at a union workplace are not automatically enrolled into paying dues. Employees who do not pay dues/join the union still have the same protections as dues-paying members however they do not have voting rights. |
Q: "Does signing a union card enroll me in paying dues?" A: No |
Signing a union card only signifies that you have decided you want to organize collectively with your peers, and is an assumed 'Yes' vote in the portal. Choosing to be a dues-paying member comes after the voting process is completed. |
Q: "When is the vote?" A: Hopefully soon |
While we have majority support already, we are trying to reach out to everyone before scheduling the vote. Our goal is for no one to be surprised by the result of the organization efforts. |
